Coupeville Library Expansion -- Week 6

This was a good week on the Library Expansion project. Forming for the concrete floor, insertion of the rebar, and completion of all plumbing, electrical and data piping under the concrete floor was completed by Thursday. At 7 AM on Friday, work began pouring the concrete floor and it was completed by noon. Below are some photos of the weeks work.

The forms and rebar are in place and awaiting concrete for the new floor.

Another view of the preparations for the concrete floor in the expanded section of the library.

This is Darren Leyenhorst, construction superintendent. He seems forever to be on the phone to keep things moving forward. We are about a week ahead of schedule currently.

The cement pump arrives at 7AM Friday -- ready to start pouring the new floor

In this photo, about 1/2 of the floor has been poured and the work continues.

The workman use a long vibrating device to assure the floor is level and that no voids occur under the surface. One workman is holding the hose that is delivering cement to be leveled.

Troweling begins. The workman on the right is doing the finish work along the edge of the floor.

As the cement hardens, a mechanical trowel is used to finish the surface

And here is the completed floor! The final troweling leaves a very smooth surface.

Some rock was brought in that will be used in the landscaping at the new entrance to the library.

Stig Carlson, architect, Jeanne Crisp, Sno-Isle, Ken Helms, Farber Construction, Darren Leyenhorst, construction superintendent, and Jim Theel contemplate how best to use this large rock as part of the landscaping at the new entrance to the library.
