Coupeville Library Expansion -- Week 16

Week 16 saw continued progress. Siding on the west side of the building has now been completed although much remains to be done on the rest of the building. A rough estimate would be that about 50% of the siding has now been installed. Interior work continued during the week. Installation of sheet rock was completed and work began taping the seams. The remaining two (of four) solar tubes bringing light in from the cupola were also installed. The photos below show some of the progress made during the week.

Siding on the west side of the building is now complete but siding work remains to be done.

An interior view of the room where the stacks will be located. Note that the seams have now been taped although the final finishing of the seams remains to be done. The final result will be
seams that are completely invisible.

This photo is a view looking down the hall toward the rear entrance to the library.

This photo is taken in the community room. The small room to the left will be a storage area and the indentation to the right will be a small kitchen area.

Coupeville Library Expansion -- Week 15

Progress continues in Week 15. Siding of the building seems to be going slowly but progress is being made and it looks very nice. Two of four solar tubes have been installed to bring light down to the front desk area from the cupulo. Sheetrock walls are being installed inside the building and solar panels have been installed on the roof. The photos below provide an update for the week.

Siding is nearly completed on the west side of the building. The siding project is about 40 percent complete.

Siding on the cupulo and dormer on the south side of the building has been completed.

We have solar panels! This bank is on the left side of the south facing roof.

A second panel has been installed on the left side of the south facing roof. These panels will generate up to 11.5 kilowatts of electrical power and power will be generated even when the sky is overcast. A panel inside the building will provide a continuous readout of the generated power.

This photo shows two of the four solar tubes that will guide light from the cupulo into the central area of the library.

Coupeville Library Expansion -- Week 14

Week 14 saw more changes at the library. The front entrance is being completed. Insulation of the exterior walls and some interior walls has begun in preparation for interior sheet rock walls. Exterior siding has begun and most of the exterior siding should be completed next week. Fortunately window installation is nearly complete and the roof has been shingled -- just ahead of two nights of rain during the week. The photos below show some of the progress and changes this week.

The front steps to the library are taking shape. A handicap sidewalk entrance will be poured to the left of the steps above the rock wall.

Insulation is being installed in exterior walls as well as some interior walls for sound proofing.

The air-conditioning and heating units have arrived. Interior ductwork is already completed. Note also our first look at the siding for the building. Of course, it will be a different color when the exterior painting is completed.

Another view of the exterior siding -- applied to one side of the cupolo so far.

A later view of more side applied on the west side of the building. Most of the siding should be installed by the end of next week.

Coupeville Library Expansion -- Week 13

Week 13 was a productive week with new visual images almost every day. The library has a new roof and windows first appeared on Tuesday. The roof is done and most of the windows have been installed. The library is very close to being dried in -- just ahead of the Fall rains that will be arriving any day now. Pictures below show some of the exterior changes from just a week ago.

Windows were installed on Tuesday. Siding comes next!

Roofers worked about three days during the week to finish the shingling. Working around all of the tie-downs for the solar panels must have been quite a challenge.

Viewed from the back (south) side of the library, shingling is now complete. It looks nice!

Here is a little better view of the front steps. Yes, a lot of steps but remember we also have near level access to the left of the steps above as well as through the rear entrance on the opposite side of Library.

This is photo of the front entrance and the windows in the adult reading room. The front entrance will be impressive when completed.

Coupeville Library Expansion -- Week 12

Week 12 was a week of good progress completing interior rough-in of plumbing, electrical, heating and cool conduits, and the fire sprinkler system. Outside more work was done on the front steps and fascia was added around the roof lines. It is incredible the amount of detailed work that has to be completed before "finishing" can begin! Below are some photos taken this week.

Front steps have been poured and were covered for protection and from the rain.

In this photo, you can see the treated and painted boards (fascia) being added along the edge of the roof. These need to be completed before shingling can begin.

This photo shows black pipe that will be installed to provide the building sprinkler system.

Heating and cooling duct work has been installed overhead

There is seemingly no end to the amount of piping, electrical wires and outlet box that have been installed in the building. No need to worry about having enough electrical outlets!
