Coupeville Library Expansion--Week 24

The Library Expansion project slowed somewhat this week as the holiday began to dominate the activity and some cabinets were delayed in arriving until next week. Still there are lots of interesting photos to be taken.

Every evening when the sun goes down in the west and the sky is clear, a streak of light appears across Coupeville that includes the Library. This photo was taken across the open field west of the Library and is always eye-catching.

This photo shows two workman who are spray staining wood slats that will be installed on the ceiling of the entry hallway connecting the front and rear entrances to the Library. The first few pieces have been installed and look very nice. A photo of the installed ceiling should be available next week.

Cabinets have been installed in the area that will be behind the circulation desk. The "window" in the picture opens to the librarian's office.

Ceiling panels have been installed throughout the building. The covers over the lights will be installed later. This view is in the stacks area.

And here is a happy librarian (Leslie) standing in her future office! The "window" looks out to the circulation desk as well as to the adult reading room and to the children's area.

Coupeville Library Expansion--Week 22

Week 22 saw many changes in the library expansion project as finishing work is becoming the work of the day. It is exciting to see so many changes and to realize that completion of the project is not that many weeks away. Below are several photos showing the progress.

This view is just inside the main entrance in an area that will be used by the Friends of the Library. That middle cabinet is a rolling cart that can be pulled out from its cabinet location.

This is a view of some of the lights that point upward in the stacks area. Power is on in the building.

These "lights" are really not lights at all but are the four solar tubes bringing sunlight in from the outside. They are located above the check out area in roughly the center of the Library and bring in lots of natural light.

This a photo shows one of the rest rooms -- now essentially complete.

The fireplace in the adult reading room has been installed. The plastic will protect it while the remaining trim and carpeting is installed in this room.

We have water fountains! These water fountains are located just inside the rear entrance of the expanded library.

This photo shows the gate that rolls down from the ceiling to close off the main library from the entrances and from the community room. The community room is seen in the background on the other side of the gate.

This view is a photo of the front entrance to the library. Only window and door trim remains to be installed.

Workman worked during the week to grade the area behind (west) of the library to create this water retention pond. The area in foreground is covered with a straw mulch but will likely become a grassy area when the weather improves this spring.
Finally, this is a photo of the library from the north side. It will be the view people at the wharf or in downtown Coupeville will see.

Coupeville Library Expansion--Week 21

Week 21 has brought many changes in the Library. Painting of the exterior surfaces was completed and we now know the final color of the expanded building. Inside, the accoustical ceilings in the adult reading room and the stacks area were installed and additional tile work was completed in the bathrooms. Finally some of the cabinet work has arrived and is being installed. The photos below show some of the progress.

The new coat of paint on the exterior walls really brightened the building. This will be the final color of the new facility.

Accoustical panels were installed in the ceiling in the stacks area.

This photo shows the "kitchen area" in the community room with a workman toiling away in the sink compartment.

Accoustical panels have also been installed in the adult reading room. It will be interesting to see the impact of the panels in "quieting" the room when the expansion is completed.

Floor and wall tile have been completed in the bathrooms.
